How AudioForge works

From manuscript to multi-voice audiobook in four steps — plus answers to the questions we hear most.

The workflow

1. Create a book and add a chapter

Start from "My Books", create your book, then paste or upload a chapter. Series with many chapters are the sweet spot — each chapter becomes its own audio file.

2. Parse it into a script

In the Director Studio, AudioForge reads your chapter and turns it into a screenplay: every line is tagged with who speaks it and how it should be delivered. Review the result — lines the AI could not attribute show an unknown speaker you can assign yourself.

3. Cast your voices

Assign a voice from the Voice Library to each character (and the narrator). Your casting is saved per book, so recurring characters keep their voice across chapters.

4. Generate and export

Generate audio for the chapter and AudioForge stitches all segments — with pauses where you placed them — into a single chapter file you can download as MP3 and host wherever you like.

Frequently asked questions

How do credits work?

Parsing and audio generation consume credits based on the amount of text processed. You can see your balance in the sidebar and buy more under Credits & Billing. When you regenerate a chapter, segments you have not changed are reused from cache and are not billed again — you only pay for what changed.

My parsing or generation job seems stuck — what should I do?

Long chapters can take a few minutes to parse and generate, and it is safe to leave the page while a job runs. If a job shows no progress for a long time, try refreshing the page first; if it still looks stuck, report it via the Support tab and we will take a look.

Can I edit the script by hand?

Yes. The Director Studio lets you edit any line: change the speaker, adjust the delivery/tonality, fix the text itself, or add pauses between segments. Your edits are what the audio generation uses.

A character got the wrong voice or tone — do I have to regenerate everything?

No. Fix the affected lines (speaker, tonality, or voice assignment) and regenerate — only the segments that changed are re-generated and billed. The rest of the chapter is reused.

Who owns the audio I create?

You do — 100%. AudioForge is a production tool, not a publisher. See the IP Policy & FAQ page for the full details on your rights, delisting, and deletion.
